Chicago’s First Cat Cafe Opens on Saturday

It’s finally here, as what’s billed as Chicago’s first cat cafe opens on Saturday in West Ridge. It’s part of Tree House Humane Society’s new shelter at 7225 N. Western Ave. There are no baristas at The Purrfect Roast Catfe, but visitors have a chance to grab a coffee or tea and interact with some furry critters with the option to adopt.

Tree House owners and friends unveiled their new home today with a ribbon cutting this morning. Chicagoist scored some photos of the spot during an opening event this morning. The cafe won’t open until Saturday when they’ll host tours of the facility from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Some may be disappointed that the cafe is self-service, using beverages from Royal Cup Coffee. Cat cafes across the country have different business models. Tree House’s cafe is akin to an office break room with machines and room for about eight to 10. The cats will be available via appointment in separate room. They’re not aiming to be a trendy spot for a caffeine jolt. Tree House’s officials are more interested in educating Chicagoans about their mission in caring for cats.

Chicago’s cat lovers can finally rejoice. The city’s first cat cafe opens on Saturday.

The Purrfect Roast Catfe, inside the Tree House Humane Society, 7225 N. Western Ave. Closed on Wednesdays. Hours not posted yet.
